1. Have you seen very few or even NONE of movies nominated?
2. Do you plan to make sure you are home and in front of the TV for the Red Carpet and only care to see what all the stars are wearing and are even more curious to see who gets "Best Dressed" and Who gets "Worst Dressed?"
3. Will you be watching a DVD, The Red Carpet Reviews, or Your Favorite Show On Another Network once the actual Awards begin?
4. Do you need to be up early on Monday and cannot stay up to watch the end to see who gets "Best Picture?"
If you answered YES to any one of these question, you are probably an Oscars Tailgater, too, and are most likely more concerned with putting together a spread to enhance your red carpet viewing pleasure than you are with who is going to get Best Actor, if you even know who's up for it.
Here's what I am going to do for refreshments, and I am going to keep it simple:
Beer and Wine are always good but here is a great Bellini Recipe:
Ingredients
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
1 bag frozen peaches, but thaw them
1 teaspoon grated orange peel
1 bag frozen strawberries, but thaw them
1 bag frozen blackberries, but thaw them
4 to 6 bottles of sparkling wine, chilled
Fresh strawberries or raspberries and orange peel for garnish
Directions
Stir the sugar and water in a large saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves to create a sugar syrup. Cool.
Blend the peaches and orange peel in a blender with 1/2 cup of the sugar syrup until smooth. Strain through a fine-meshed strainer and into a bowl. Cover and refrigerate.
In a clean blender puree the strawberries with 1/3 cup of the sugar syrup until smooth. Strain through a clean fine-meshed strainer and into another bowl. Get rid of the seeds. Blend the blackberries in a clean blender with 1/3 cup of the sugar syrup until smooth. Strain through a clean fine-meshed strainer and into a third bowl. Get rid of the seeds. Pour each of the purees into clear glass bowls or small pitchers.
In each glass pour 2 to 4 tablespoons of the desired fruit puree into a Champagne flute. Slowly pour enough sparkling wine into the flute to fill. Gently stir to blend. Garnish with the whole berries, as desired, and serve.
For Dessert
create an Ice Cream Oscar Sunday Bar. It is easy and everybody loves to customize there own, especially if you have kids at your Oscar Tailgate Party.
Pick up a couple flavors of ice cream
For toppings...
Crumble up some brownie pieces
Crumble up some chocolate chip cookies pieces
peanuts and almond pieces
Carmel and Chocolate Sauce
Whipped Cream
and of Course Cherries on Top.
As far as food goes, I am going to do like Elton does for his parties and cater: I'm having pizza delivered.
